At Upendi, we provide compassionate, personalised paediatric occupational therapy to help children grow, participate, and thrive in everyday life. Through tailored support in homes, schools, and community settings, we empower children to build confidence, independence, and a sense of accomplishment — every step of the way.

hello!
I’m Tyler, an Occupational Therapist and the founder of Upendi. I started Upendi with a simple, heartfelt vision: to bring consistent, high-quality therapy to children, young people, and families in our community, who have too often gone without the support they need. After years working across hospitals, community health, and NDIS settings, I saw a clear gap with families sometimes waiting months for services, often feeling lost, frustrated, or forgotten. I want this to change for my community.
Upendi was born from both professional experience and personal passion. I love working with children and their families, helping them build the skills, confidence, and independence to do the things that make everyday life meaningful. My goal is to make therapy accessible, reliable, and grounded in genuine connection.
Upendi also represents something deeper for me.
The name Upendi was inspired by the Swahili word Upendo, meaning love, and by the song “Upendi” from The Lion King II. In the film, Upendi represents a place of love, joy, and acceptance, where everyone belongs just as they are. That message deeply resonates with what I wanted to create through this business, a space built on compassion, trust, and a genuine sense of belonging for both families and therapists.
Throughout my career, I’ve learned how much the environment we work in matters. Not just for clients, for therapists too. I have dreamed of creating a space where people feel valued, supported, and inspired. Upendi represents that dream, a practice founded on love, community, and hope. A place where children are empowered, families feel supported, and therapists find true purpose in helping others thrive.
Welcome to Upendi. I’m so glad you’re here.
